She gives a single bleak laugh in response.

"How?"

"You'd probably know better than me, I bet."

"Or maybe no one but the culprits themselves would know, when you get down to it, but you like all that true crime stuff, don't you? I admit you creeped me out a bit at first but I think we need a person like you at a time like this."

"Even if it's you, you might not be able to solve it or to do anything more than the police can, but we don't really need you to solve it."

"The thing is the cops never tell us anything about stuff like this, so we need you to figure it out and spread the word around! We're all dying to know who did it!"

Her half-maniacal smile is as uncanny and out-of-place as the think shadows looming behind her.
